ssh shush.hackclub.com -p 5555
That's part of what SSH can do! This guide will teach you how to make something similar. This guide is beginner friendly, I promise!
Even if you’ve never touched a server before you should be able to follow the steps here and gain some familiarity with the command line. If that applies to you, by the end of this you’ll know enough to be able to deploy your own web apps and projects on a Linux server.
why should i do this if i can just deploy my apps on [service]?
Because Vercel, Render, Railway etc all have limitations as to what they can deploy. Sometimes your websites go down or are deleted if they haven’t been used in a while. Sometimes they stop your apps if they’re too intensive. Oftentimes, major benefits are blocked by paywalls, and there’s no guarantee they won’t just rugpull you and leave you and your projects hanging.
Having access to your very own server that you can run in your room gives you more freedom in the projects you chooes to deploy. Besides, owning your shit is cool.
